A new star born in the space above Ansion as the Saak'ak exited Hyperspace with a swift flash of light. A Neimoidian shuttle, the Lapiz Cutter, darted out of the capital ship's hangars. Aboard, the Trade Federation's viceroy, Nute Gunray anxiously awaited for their arrival to the surface. At the Viceroy's side sat his lieutenant, Rune Haako, a tense yet confident expression printed in his face. Alongside the two main leaders of the Trade Federation, a sorted embassy of diplomats filled the ship.
" This mission must be a full success, the Confederacy is already weak enough to face a failed secession. " whispered Gunray to the fellow advisor, leaning his head over the shoulder.
" We will not fail, I can ensure you, Viceroy. Our cards have been placed over the table and the game is favorable to us. We must send the bait and hope they will catch it. "
" You better be right, Lieutenant, or I fear we will otherwise face the Count's displeasure! " cried the Viceroy, righting his head to a more proud and authoritarian position.
____________
While the two Neimoidian continued their debate, the elegant Sheathipede-class shuttle calmly hovered above the yellowish grass fields and low-standing shrubs that undulated with the light breeze as herds of suubatars and surepps wandered the beautiful landscape. In moments, the dry plains gave their place to the greenish-blue water of the Dzavak Lakes, which shone with an intense flash of light, illuminated by Ansion's burning sun.
And, with time, the first views of the Sorr-ul-Paan Plateau's came and the proud capital of Cuipernam finally arrived at their sight. With this, the diplomatic shuttle began its descent to the city's ground, where the Trade Federation's Ansionian counterparts patiently awaited them. The seven members of the Unity Council, along with their aides and other influential members of the Unity stood lined up to welcome the embassy as the Lapiz Cutter calmly landed with an elegant pose. Nute Gunray swiftly exited the starship as the latter's doors opened, closely followed by Haako and, behind the Federation's lieutenant, was the rest of the Neimoidian delegation.
" Greetings, Viceroy Gunray. It is a true pleasure to at last meet you. " stated the Fargane the Council's most senior delegate, a pale-yellow Ansionian with an enigmatic, intellectual expression.
" Greetings, Delegates. I'm honoured to be allowed to strengthen the Trade Federation's with the beautiful planet Ansion is. " said Gunray in return, respectfully bowing his head.
" And so are we, Viceroy. " replied Kandah, one of the Ansionan members of the Unity Council.
" May I present you, Viceroy Gunray, Kandah. She is eager to join your economical causes, I should note. " intervened Fargane.
" I'm pleased to meet you, Delegate Kandah. Also would I like to present my advisor, Rune Haako. "
At his superior's calling, Lieutenant Haako bowed deeply, demonstrating his respect towards the delegation.
" An exceptional advisor from what I have been told. " praised Fargane.
" Thank you, Delegate Fargane. Pleased to meet you and honoured to accompany my Viceroy to this beautiful planet " replied Haako in return.
" Beautiful and prosperous. " added Gunray in a flattering tone.
" Ansion is indeed a unique world. But far from prosperous. "
" Truly, Delegate Fargane, the Trade Federation and the Commerce Guild have already discussed about a possible economical bound with Anion. "
" That would be a honour, Viceroy. Yet, I fear our planet lacks the resources to establish direct trade with other factions. We are reserved to the use of third parties to transport our goods. "
" May that cause no delays, we will happily allow Ansion to use our trade-lines to import and export goods! For a null fee "
" Null fee..." echoed a third member of the Unity Council " a difficult achievement in these times. "
Fargane's eyes darted towards the delegate, fulminating him with an furious glare.
" We are most grateful for the opportunity to start a trade enterprise with the Trade Federation. Perhaps, we might even share some of our politics. In fact, the Unity Council has already put over the table the possibility to join the causes of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. "
" Delegates, it would be an honour to have you as part of our confederation. "
" The honour is all ours. After all, what better moment to discuss such matter than in the presence of a member of the Confederate Council himself ? Now, Viceroy, would you follow me to our meeting room, so we can continue with the discussion? "
With a slow nod of the head, the Viceroy calmly followed the fellow delegate, closely trailed by his advisor.
____________
The meeting room was an ample chamber middled by a oval-shaped table, a fine furniture made of exotic wood. The members of the Unity Council occupied their normal seats, while the diplomatic party took the chairs that were added for the event. As always, delegate Fargane initiate the meeting, clearing his throat, before proceeding to his speech:
" Fellow delegates, we have today been granted with the presence of Viceroy Nute Gunray, the head-of-state of the Trade Federation. It is a honour to have such an important personality here, with us. And more honoured are we by being considered as a possible economical partner with the Federation. We have been allowed to use those trade routes to export our goods, something we must owe to Viceroy Gunray and, above all things, Count Dooku, for his audacious attempts to free the Galaxy's commerce, under the banner of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. And, for that, and for many other subjects discussed earlier, a major part of our citizenship and delegation have contemplated the possibility of seceding from the Galactic Republic's sphere of influence. I would wish to hear your opinions about this subject, delegates. "
Kandah, the female Ansionian delegate, immediately initiate her speech, in a soft, clear voice.
" In my understanding, I consider that joining the Confederacy could, would bring to us great prosperity, expanding our economy and politics, freeing us from the grip of bureaucracy, while still ensuring a peaceful world for our citizens, our children, and our grandchildren to live in, without weight of internal wars... "
" It's not civil wars that we beware for, but the ones involving other major factions. " cut the third delegate in a injurious tone "With our secession from the Republic, the Separatist will most likely drain our wealth to feed their war machine, if not industrialise and defile this beautiful world into a wretched hive of capitalist scum! "
" We must not count the suubatars before they born, delegate Dameerd. The Confederacy has saved many worlds from bankrupt and elevated many others into prosperity. After all, not even the Galactic Republic is clear of destroying worlds or breaking their own law. By that point of view, we shouldn't maintain our alliance the Republic either. " replied Tolut, the Armalat representative in Unity of Community.
" Certainly not as often as the Separatists, Tolut. They have murdered far too many civilians before. I'm sure you don't want that to occur here do you? "
Prompted by the Pro-Republican protests, Kandah lift herself from the chair, releasing a injurious oath in the Ansionian language, hit the table with her fist as she did so. With the echo of her words, the rest of the delegation suddenly erupted into a warm discussion, only dissipated by Fargane's clearing of throat, ending the debate abruptly.
" I have heard more than enough! We will proceed the voting before any other 'incidents' occur. "
The delegate paused his speech for some moments, retaking it right after.
" Those who do not consent with a secession from the Republic, say 'Nay'. "
Two voices echoed the words in a hard tone.
" Those who agree with signing the Articles of Secession, say 'Aye'. "
The shout of the five other member of the Council resonate through the room in a resolute voice. Ansion and its sector's fate was written. With a determined, proud tone, Fargane finished the meeting with a last sentence directed to the Trade Federation's Viceroy:
" As result of this voting, and by the power invested in the Unity Council, Ansion will gladly sign the Articles of Secession and, by effects, leave the Galactic Republic. "
